Car rentals

Suriname and Guyana are the only two countries on the American continent where people drive on the left side of the road. If you are thinking of driving a car there, you must possess a valid international driver’s license during your stay. People who do not have this valid international driver’s license can apply for a driver’s permit with the Driver’s License Department at the New Haven Office in Paramaribo.

In addition to the traffic rules, driving in Suriname requires a high level of observation due to driving on the left side of the road, the narrow roads and the lack of bicycle paths and pedestrian walkways. If you would like to rent a car, you will be able to choose from a number of local and international car rental companies. Bicycle rental companies are also well represented.

There are plenty of taxis. Discuss the fare before you get in, since taxis are not equipped with meters.
