Recipe of the Month - September Menu
The month of September is known as the hottest month in Suriname. The schools are closed and almost everyone goes to the interior in order to cool off in one of the many creeks. The roads to the interior are also busier than the roads that lead to Paramaribo. The vegetables you most likely find in September are pumpkin, tajerblad (local known vegetable) and ocher. Just as in August in September on nearly every street corner, watermelons and pineapples are for sale. These fruits are bought and taken along on the trips to the creeks. They are not traditionally cooled in a cooler, but in the cold creek water which has the same effect.
